The Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases started publication in March 1984. It is supervised by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and is sponsored by Jilin University. It has been included as one of the Source Journals for Chinese Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations (Chinese Core Journals of Science and Technology). The Journal mainly covers cerebrovascular diseases and also reports on other neurological and neurosurgical diseases and neurological complications in various clinical diseases. It has columns such as Guidelines and Expert Consensus, Expert Lecture, Original Article and Experience Summary, Review, and Short Article. It is currently one of the Chinese Core Journals of Science and Technology (Source Journals for Chinese Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations) and China Academic Journals (CD Edition) and has been indexed in some well-known databases in China and abroad, such as the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang Data, VIP, Chaoxing Database, China’s Lifelong Education Academic Research Database, Chemical Abstracts (CA, USA), and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST, Japan).
1 Submission Requirements
1.1 Writing style The manuscript should be scientific and practical, with reliable data, concise wording, and canonical writing. The data must be statistically processed in a strict way. The original article and review (including figures, tables, and references) should not exceed 6,000 words; the short reporting article should not exceed 3,000 words; the word count limit of column articles may vary depending on specific circumstances.
1.2 Manuscript title A title should be concise and accurate, and summarize the main idea of a manuscript. Generally, it should not exceed 20 words. A subtitle may be added when necessary. An English title should be equivalent to its Chinese title in meaning.
1.3 Authors and their affiliation(s) The signatory authors should be listed below the manuscript title. For reviews, the responsible author and review author(s) should be indicated. The author’s affiliation should be provided in the order of affiliation name and its location (city, zip code, and province of the affiliation). When authors do not share the same affiliation, their names should be followed by superscript numbers (e.g., 1, 2, 3). The name and email address of the corresponding author must be indicated. Meanwhile, the Pinyin of the names of the first three authors, the English name of the affiliation and residing city of the first author, and the zip code should be indicated. Authors, whether Chinese or not, should indicate their names in the order of family name followed by given name.
1.4 Fund project This item should be placed below the author’s affiliation, e.g., Fund Project: National Natural Science Foundation Funding Project (Project number). After provision of relevant information, a scanned copy of the fund certificate must be uploaded in the review system for review by the Editorial Office.
1.5 Key words Three to five key words should be provided with reference to the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) by the National Library of Medicine and the Chinese Traditional Medicine and Materia Medica Subject Headings. The key words should be rendered in both Chinese and English, separated by semicolons. Free words that have not been registered in the subject headings can also be provided as key words when necessary.
1.6 Abstract All manuscripts must be accompanied with Chinese and English abstracts, which can be provided as a separate section. The original article should have a structured abstract, which has a word count of no more than 400 words and should include research objective, methods, results (including critical or main data), and conclusions. The short article and review should have a reporting/indicative abstract, which has a word count of no more than 300 words. Chinese and English abstracts should have equivalent content. Abstracts should be written without figures and tables, references, or comments and explanations.
1.8 Figures and tables Figures and tables should be small in quantity and fine in quality, and should be consecutively numbered in the order of their occurrence in the text. Figures and tables are used only when text description is not sufficient. Each figure (table) should have a caption. The figure caption should be placed below the figure and the figure legend (if any) should be placed below the figure and above the caption; the table caption should be placed above the table and the notes (if any) should be placed below the table. Three-line tables should be adopted, and tables should not be provided in the form of pictures.
1.9 Abbreviations Abbreviations should generally be avoided in the manuscript title. Where abbreviations must occur in the main text, they should be provided in their full forms followed by Chinese abbreviations or English full forms and their abbreviations in parentheses on their first occurrence (commonly known English abbreviations can be used without their full forms).
1.10 Heading levels There are generally no more than three heading levels in the main text, e.g., 1, 1.1, and 1.1.1.
2 Instructions for Authors
2.1 Authors’ responsibilities Prior to submission of a manuscript, the author should learn and follow the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (www.icmje.org) developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), which mainly covers manuscript preparation requirements, ethical issues, conflicts of interest, and author contribution statement. A study protocol should be approved by the corresponding ethics committee and must be in line with the Declaration of Helsinki (amendment in 2013; (http://www.wma.net/) developed by the World Medical Association; a written consent should be obtained from subjects for all studies; any experiments involving animals should meet the guidelines for the use of animals developed by a national authority or association. The above description should be appended to the end of the main text of a manuscript in the format as follows.
Ethical Statement: This study protocol has been approved by the Ethics Committee (or Laboratory Animal Ethics Committee) of *** Hospital (approval number: ABC1234) and registered at *** (a clinical trial registration institution) with a registration number of ABC1234. All subjects have signed an informed consent form (or it is in line with Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals).
Conflict of Interest Statement: All authors declare that no conflicts of interest exist.
Author Contribution Statement: Please indicate the contribution of authors based on their specific roles in the research, e.g., designing the framework of the manuscript; drafting the manuscript; experimental operation and implementation of the research process; data collection, statistical analysis, and graph plotting; literature collection; manuscript revision; conceptualizing the writing, guiding the writing of the manuscript, and finalizing the manuscript.
2.2 Submission methods
2.2.1 Online submission The Journal only accepts submission through the official website. Please log in to the official website of Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases (www.zfysjjbzz.com), click on the author’s submission system for registration, and then submit your manuscript. Authors can inquiry about the manuscript status and revise the reviewed manuscript in the system.
2.2.2 Contribution to a column The Journal is planning to set up columns for cerebrovascular diseases, dementia, epilepsy, dyskinesia, neurosonology, neuropsychology, neurological intervention, dizziness, headache, infection, and sleep. Authors are welcome to contribute. Authors can obtain the subject of the latest forthcoming column on the official website of the Journal. Remember to add a “For Column” remark during submission for review in advance and published in the column upon acceptance.
2.3 Matters needing attention
2.3.1 Authors’ responsibilities The author(s) shall be accountable for the manuscripts submitted to the Journal, and they shall be responsible for the authenticity and scientificity of the manuscripts. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Copyright Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Journal may modify and delete the text of the manuscript submitted. Where a modification that may change the original meaning of the text is involved, the author shall be consulted for confirmation. After publication of the manuscript, two copies of the issue will be provided to the authors.
2.3.2 Copyright Once a manuscript is published, the exclusive right to use shall be owned by the Editorial Office of Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases (hereinafter referred to as the Editorial Office); the Editorial Office has the right to publish the manuscript in the form of electronic journal, CD-ROM, and other formats. No part of the manuscript may be reproduced elsewhere without the consent of the Editorial Office. Duplicate or multiple submissions are strictly forbidden; otherwise, the liabilities arising therefrom shall be borne by the author.
2.3.3 Review period A three-round review system is strictly implemented for this Journal. The review period is 3 months since the month of submission. Authors may consider submitting to another journal only if they have not received a response within three months.
2.3.4 Guidelines and experts consensus The Journal gives priority to the publication of the latest neurological guidelines and their translations developed in China and abroad, and no page charges will be levied on such articles. All institutions and authors are welcome to recommend guidelines (including guidelines, consensus, and regulations). Please get in touch with the Editorial Office if you want to be a recommender. Priority will be given to those that meet the scope of the Journal after review. The translations of foreign guidelines must be reviewed by a leading expert in the relevant field to ensure authority and value of guidance.
